Microsoft "FrontPage 2002
Inside Out" Book Review
by John
Calhoun
This
is a big book! 1118 pages, jam-packed
full of help and information on building your own website. Aimed at advanced users, this book includes info
on cascading style sheets, hyperlinks, animation, and incorporating forms and
databases into a website. The book
includes instructions for creating Web pages, managing a Personal Web Server,
keeping a site up-to-date, and publishing a Website. It also has tons of timesaving tips and
tricks, troubleshooting techniques, and indexes for everything contained in the
book.
FrontPage
2002 is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) website creation package, and
this Inside Out book gives you a sample website to guide you. The book comes with a CD containing the e-Book
version of the book, as well as add-ins,
utilities, and the sample website.
It also has bonus content not included in the book, as well as helpful
Web links, sample macros and code, tutorials, and utilities.
I
found the book to be very informative and helpful. It contains a wealth of information, but is
primarily aimed at the more experienced computer user. However, I must say that I am very
disappointed with Microsoft for not including this book with the FrontPage
software. Most software that I have ever
purchased comes WITH the manual: it doesn’t have to be bought separately! And, at $45, it’s not cheap! The manual that does come with the software
is puny, and basically just gets you started.
